Complete in two volumes. Uniformly bound in full calf with gilt detail. A popular work, illustrating the life of George IV, with original letters from Queen Caroline and other distinguished persons. These diaries were hugely successful in the nineteenth century, and quickly became best sellers. Their popularity was fueled by the fact they exposed supposed secrets and scandals which occurred under George IV's reign. Although published anonymously, they are widely accredited to Lady Charlotte Bury. WIth a bookplate for, 'Thomas Munro', to the front paste-down, and one for, 'Egerton Parker', to the front free endpaper. CONDITION Uniformly bound in full calf. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine. Spotting and marks to the boards. Spotting to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Bookplate to the front paste-downs and front free endpapers. Staining surrounding the bookplate on the paste-downs. Internally, binding slightly strained to the centre but otherwise firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with light age-toning and the odd spot throughout.
