Description: Tough Variety & Beaded Obv Border! 1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar O-108 1836/1336, with Beaded Obverse Border NGC AU53 A gorgeous, golden brilliant piece with thickly frosted fields and moderate cartwheel emanating from the protected areas. The O-108 early stage is the most desirable stage of this variety because all the fantastic and weird features of this die pair are on full display. Very tough in AU grades. CPG prices it at $715 in AU50 and $1220 in AU58. It has long been said that only the reverse die used on the O-106 die marriage shows the experimental beaded border. Actually, we recently documented that the obverse die of O-108, the 1836 over 1336 variety, actually has a beaded boarder obverse! A very interesting pair of dies, and a very exciting development for a variety that is normally only known for a faint over-date. The easiest feature of the over-date is the ball of a 3 inside the lower loop of the 8. There is also a solid line around the reverse perimeter on this variety, hidden within the dentils.
