Description: An incredible piece of Richard Norris Family Talbot County Maryland history! This 12 by 7.5” 3 page document purports to be an original 1685 deed transferring the 200 acre “Jones Park” in Talbot County from Richard Jones to Robert Norris for 5000 pounds merchantable tobacco. However, closer inspection reveals it is a reproduction, handwritten by Talbot County clerk of court Philip Feddeman sometime between 1721 and 1727 for Robert Norris Waight, grandson and namesake of the buyer. Still, a 300 year old reproduction of a deed from 35 years earlier. Deed is written in an older, 17th century style, but Feddeman was born around 1680, so wrote in an old fashioned manner in the 1720s. Still an exceptionally early Maryland document detailing a land purchase that remained the plantation of the Norris and families for generations. Generally good shape with some chipping and a few insect holes along the right margin. Buyer to pay $17.95 insured priority shipping in US or 1 pound priority international.
