Description: This lot contains fourteen 10-inch 78 RPM records from the 1950's, or at least the late 1940's. Most of them fall within the broad "pop" genre, but other genres - rock, country, jazz and soul, for instance - are also represented. All 14 are shown in the first picture, then in pairs, both sides, in the following order. * Mercury # 5392 - "Poco Loco in the Coco" and "If I knew You Were Coming, I'd Have Baked a Cake" by Eileen Barton and the New Yorkers. Mercury # 70471 - "Bring Back My Baby to Me" and "One a Two Time More" by Ronnie Gaylord. Mercury # 70208 - "Go and Leave Me" and "Pretty Fickle Darlin'" by Jim Lowe. * Mercury # 70341 - "Crazy 'Bout You Baby" and "Angela Mia" by the Crew-Cuts. Dot # 15533 - "Young Love" and "Red Sails in the Sunset" by Tab Hunter. Era # 1003 - "Love Is" and "Suddenly There's a Valley" by Gogi Grant. * Decca # 27949 (DJ copy) - "Mountain Laurel" and "Allegheny Fiddler" by Jane Turzy. M-G-M # 11419 - "Mexico" and "My Heart Is a Kingdom" by Ken Remo. X # X-0042 - "St. Louis Blues Mambo" and "Beloved, Be True" by Richard Maltby and Orchestra. Columbia # 37268 - "Nicholas" and "Open the Door, Richard" by the Three Flames.* RCA Victor # 20-3989 (DJ copy) - "Gotta See Ya Once More" and "Ja-Da" by Lisa Kirk. RCA Victor # 20-4287 - "Painting the Clouds with Sunshine" and "Little Jumping Jack" by the Three Suns. Epic # 9093 - "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" and "My Baby Just Cares for Me" by Somethin' Smith and the Redheads. Epic # 9085 - "No More" and "Theresa" by the De John Sisters. * You're probably wondering what the asterisks mean, so I'll tell you. I haven't played them all, but I did a visual grading and, although they could probably all use a good cleaning, the ones without an asterisk fell broadly into the VG+ (or better) category - still nice and shiny, and not a lot of significant surface wear. I played a couple of randomly selected sides, and they played through fine, with no skips or repeats and just typical light background noise for records of this age. Not that I can guarantee all of them 100 percent, though - the most problematic scratches, needle digs and manufacturing blisters are sometimes the ones that are so small you can barely even see them. So the four with asterisks are the ones I had some doubts about, so I play-tested them for you on my Audio-Technica turntable. The result - as I expected - was that they grade a step or two lower, with generally more audible background noise, including some pops and clicks and passages of ticking or swishing. If I had to rank them in order (which I don't), I'd say the worst two are the Crew-Cuts and the Eileen Barton. "Poco Loco in the Coco" even had a forward jump in the middle, but there were no jumps or repeats on any of the others.
